Gunsense - A gun violence tracking app that maps incidents of gun violence and connects users to government officials

• Built with ReactJS, Redux with redux-toolkit for state management, MaterialUI for styling and Firebase for hosting, authentication and a data storage
• Created a Figma wireframe to present concept to the back end engineering team
• Set up file architecture using the 'feature folder' approach with a 'duck' file for each slice of state (users, incidents, representatives, and letters)
• Used RTK's createEntityAdaptor to normalize the data inside each slice and provide convenient native selector functions
• Used redux-thunk to handle the asynchronous function calls following a standard async fetching pattern with states for loading, success and failure
• Designed data schemas and created mock data using Mockeroo to test API calls for all four features
• Integrated redux-logger to log the flow of state throughout the application during developement
• Learned MUI on-the-fly during the 2 week hackathon to quickly build out beautiful and responsive components with consistent theming
• Post hackathon I independently initialized the project on Firebase, set up authentication and a Firestore database
• Generated serverless utility functions to sign up, sign in, and sign out users and connected them to the database and the appropriate slice of state in the Redux store
• Implemented requests to Google Civic Information API to fetch User's government representatives based on their address and reshaped response data to be displayed in a personalized list of representatives
• Set up hosting on Firebase with a custom domain

Color Tool

Color Tool - A progressive web app to improve understanding of working with RGBA and HSLA color models

• Built with ReactJS using Context API for state management and deployed to Netlify
• Implemented as a lightweight progressive web app
• Uses controlled components in React by capturing the HTML input values from sliders, arrows, and text inputs and passing them through React state
• Comes pre-loaded with educational diagrams and transparent PNG textures
• Users choose a background or foreground image and adjust the color of the middle layer to view the effects of transparency layers on images
• Compare relationships between RGBA and HSLA color models

Tiger Blogs

Tiger Blogs - A serverless blogging web application built for DeveloperWeek Cloud 2022 Hackathon

• Built using React, Node,and MongoDB and deployed to Azure web service
• Worked closely with a team engineers using Agile methodologies, performing bi-weekly stand-ups and regular code reviews through Git version control
• Responsible for architecting front end features for user's info, sign in / sign out functionality, creating new posts, and a blog feed that can be filtered by category
• Used react-router-dom for routing and React's Context API for state management
• Used react-bootstrap for component styling
• Integrated junior developer's css stylesheet into React's component base architecture

Cast and Crew Carousel

Movieoke (aka Fandangit) - A searchable movie app providing trailers, theatres, showtimes, synopsis, and cast info

• Built using React, Node, Express and MongoDB
• Responsible for the Cast and Crew feature
• Worked closely with a team engineers using Agile methodologies, performing daily stand-ups and regular code reviews through Git version control
• Used React with styled-components to create a photo carousel from scratch with wrap-around content that displayed actor’s bio and filmography in a popup modal
• Integrated other team member's features into a Node based proxy server
• Deployed onto AWS using Elastic Beanstalk to streamline the deployment process and stored the photo assets in an s3 bucket in order to keep the files available, secure and easy to manage

Fibonacci Calculator

Fibonacci Calculator - a Kubernetes-based application that calculates Fibonacci values

• Built out a React front end that uses Axios to make requests to an Express server
• Created a Redis client to calculate fibonacci values and cache the results
• Connected a Postgres database for long term storage of input values
• Configured Dockerfiles to generate containers for each service using Docker-compose
• Configured a Kubernetes Cluster using an Ingress Service for exposure to outside traffic and ClusterIP Services for internal access to the client, server, Redis and Postgres deployment pods
• Created a Persistent Volume Claim for the Postgres instance
• Set up CI/CD through Github using TravisCI to automate testing and deployment
• Set up project on Google Cloud and created cluster using Kubernetes Engine
• Installed Cert Manager into cluster and configured issuer to set up HTTPS certificates using Let'sEncrypt
